EATING TIME IN ILOILO

How would "poor" seminarians survive an outing without the generous support of friends and benefactors who can shell out a little to feed them?  Friends indeed we have aplenty especially in Iloilo ... those who not only welcomed us but as well treated us to sumptuous food like the La Paz Batchoy merienda we had at Deco's c/o Josefino Fr. Bong Villagareza, fresh TALABA and other seafood products at Breakthrough Seafood Restaurant c/o Jesuit Fr. Robbie Sian, SJ and the heavy breakfast we had at the Archbishop's Palace together with Archbishop Lagdameo himself.  Busog! Busog!

LORENZO in ILOILO 2012

A banner which says "DOING LENT" and hangs on the facade of the Jaro Church, welcomed us, the San Lorenzo Sub-community of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary when we visited Iloilo City from March 24-27, 2012.  Our few days in the island fell right in between the official semestral break and the early Holy Week schedule.  Thus, it was almost a SHOCK when our airline called us a few days before our departure date ... to inform that they were rebooking our flights!  Huh! To make the long story short ... we made it to Iloilo still ... with these photos as proof.  A transit flight to Manila was an extra treat for first time flyers.

Iloilo City is a cultural heritage area of sorts.  Old churches, ancestral houses, bridges and government houses depict the glory days of this queen city of the Visayas.  Other places we visited included the Archbishop's Palace where we had a tour of the Archdiocesan Repository of Religious artifacts, the Jaro  Church and the Iloilo Cathedral, the Ateneo de Iloilo and the Sta. Maria Parish, the St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary among others.
