BY THE BEACH IN BORA!

Our 5-hour early morning trip from Iloilo to Caticlan was well worth it.  For one, Mang Bulls - our driver -- fascinated us with Capiz "wakwak" stories of Tiniente Guimo, Amor and of course, the silver screen icon Corazon ... ang unang wakwak ... errr ... aswang. Mang Bulls also had an explanation as to why roads in Capiz remain unpaved.  Why?  The "manananggals" don't use the road.  They fly!  Yeeeeeeeeiiih! He dared us not to open our windows especially as we passed by the local cemetery which displayed no crosses nor images of saints.  As explained by Mang Bulls, "wakwaks" are buried there ... and it would just take a drop of a "wakwak's" saliva to make one visitor lose his mind.  Makabuang kung makaon ang laway sa wakwak, he said. We kept the car doors and windows shut! Whew!  What a relief indeed for us to finally see the rising sun as we neared Caticlan port.   The sun  and the fine white sands of Boracay were just a relief from all the wakwak stories.  Tsk!
